NEW ACCESS awarded contract for BPL platform in Cuenca - Ecuador

New Access S.A., local distributor of Corinex Communications Corp - Vancouver based BPL equipment provider - was awarded the first turn key BPL network project in the region.
(Quito, Ecuador – June 01, 2009)  This novel project started two years ago when New Access S.A., a member of the Ecuadorian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, used the Embassy of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) to find a Canadian BPL supplier capable of providing the best solution for the project. Corinex was chosen by New Access based on technology maturity, performance, price, and market leadership. The two companies engaged in a distribution agreement, facilitated by the Embassy’s Trade Team, which has resulted in thousands of dollars in sales.
Six months later New Access has been awarded a consulting contract to write the technical documents required by Empresa Eléctrica CENTROSUR to obtain ISP and carrier permits for their tri-provincial coverage area. After obtaining the permits CENTROSUR received approval from the regulator for a BPL pilot project where the combination Corinex/New Access performed up to the customer’s expectations.
“All connections tested over the pilot phase have shown this is a very stable platform. Our plan now is to increase network coverage and integrate BPL as another robust access technology for our Internet and data services network” said Michael Cabrera, Director of telecommunications at CENTROSUR.
The project is scheduled to begin installation in four areas of Cuenca by July 2009 and includes CPE equipment for 1,500 users in its first phase. It will cover both underground and overhead sections of the electrical grid working in medium and low voltage environments.
