Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

The Opportunity!

We are looking for a highly motivated and results oriented colleague to join our team as our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will be focused on company financing. The selected candidate will provide global leadership and coordination of our core financial functions, including planning and budget management, tax, treasury, internal controls, procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable.


  • Work with the CEO to identify and secure funding for the Company’s ongoing, long-term operational needs.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the Company’s mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans.
  • Work with the CEO on defining and implementing the Company’s strategic vision and in developing new business opportunities.
  • Work with the CEO to establish financial and strategic goals for the Company and financial and investing strategies to meet business objectives, legal, regulatory and securities reporting requirements.
  • Work with the CEO to foster and cultivate stakeholder relationships including the investment community.
  • Lead the development of the annual operating budget in conjunction with the Senior Management Team and also provide any ad hoc “what if” scenario analyses for the CEO.
  • On at least a quarterly basis, prepare variance analysis of the year-to-date actual versus budget results for the Senior Management Team to ensure compliance with the operating budget.
  • Review the Company’s corporate structure and assess the tax implications of its operations with a view to tax efficiency.
  • Assist in the development and negotiation of contracts and advise the Senior Management Team on contract implementation and compliance matters.
  • Oversee the coordination and activities of independent auditors.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team to ensure program success through cost analysis support, and compliance with all contractual and program financial requirements. This includes: 1) interpreting legislative and regulations to ensure compliance with all federal, provincial/state, local and contractual guidelines, 2) ensuring that all government regulations and requirements are disseminated to appropriate personnel, and 3) monitoring compliance.
  • Oversee accounting staff responsible for all purchasing, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and reports to funding agencies.
  • Oversee staff responsible for all payroll activity and stock-based compensation for staff and participants.
  • Manage investment strategies and banking activities of the Company.
  • Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the Company’s day-to-day needs.
  • Represent the company externally to government agencies, auditors, and the general public.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven ability in capital raising and working with investors is a must.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in the technology industry.
  • Proven leadership skills and strong organization, analytical and problem-solving skills.
